This practice heats you up from the inside versus the outside like other forms of ‘hot’ yoga! Known as Yoga Chikista or yoga therapy, Ashtanga when practiced can really help to heal.
Over the course of the series, all poses in the first series will be covered, culminating in a fully led class in the last session. In addition to learning all the poses, each participant will gain an understanding of the philosophy behind Ashtanga yoga. Each week, various poses will be broken down and tips will be shared for going deeper into a posture safely. You will come away from this workshop feeling stronger and more grounded and centered!

About Ashtanga Yoga

Asthanga was founded by Pattabhi Jois who just celebrated his 90th birthday during this past July’s full moon and still going strong - that is Guruji with Debby in May '05 in New York City.

Ashtanga means 8-limbs and is the most vigorous form of Vinyasa flow yoga. Ashtanga definitely appeals to men because once they do Ashtanga and see its power, they never think of yoga in the same way again! And it is ok if you are not flexible. You will gain flexibility - guaranteed! The first series of poses (asanas) are strength building and cleansing so that once you move into the Second series you are completing poses without effort and can work on calming the nervous system.
